Avalos still sent shots back and came forward in the remainder of round 4 and in round 5. Santa Cruz attempted to finish off Avalos in round 4 but Avalos didn't give up. In the 8th round Santa Cruz unleashed a flurry of punches and caused referee Thomas Taylor to stop the fight at 1:34 into the round.
