GMC Terrain 2017 Car Review The GMC Terrain can be a mid-size crossover utility vehicle (CUV) manufactured by GMC. According to General Motors (GM), it replaced the Pontiac Torrent which had been sold in exactly the same dealerships ahead of GM dropping the Pontiac brand. Like the , the Terrain will be based upon the Theta platform. The Terrain slots below the Acadia as GMC's smallest SUV. Although the preceding Pontiac Torrent had a similar Theta platform, the Torrent would have been a rebadged version in the original Chevrolet Equinox from 2005–09, while GM chosen to differ the look in the Chevrolet Equinox using its 2010 Terrain yet still use the Theta platform.
The GMC Terrain is the latest addition to the compact utility space, sharing many components with the Chevrolet Equinox. GMC makes it a goal to separate the Chevy and GMC brands by going more upscale with GC, offering more standard features and content, This new compact crossover has room for 5-pasengers and even though it is slightly smaller than the last model the room inside remains the same. Powering the Terrain small SUV are three engines fom a 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder to a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder. The biggest news is the addition of a 1.6L turbo diesel available for a $3000 premium over the other two. The two gasoline engines come with a 6-speed automatic, the diesel gets a 6-speed. General Motors has done a great job with in-dash technology and the GMC Terrain is one of the first GM vehicles to add Infotainment 3.0, including a USB-C connection, Android Auto, Apple Car Play and a 4G LTE connection as standard equipment. Shop the new GMC Terrain: https://cargur.us/m1cTt A full redesign of GMC's Terrain for 2018 leaves this compact crossover smaller and considerably lighter than last year's version, with a more upscale interior and improved mileage as well. The new Terrain definitely looks less blocky than it used to, with softer and rounder accents and cladding, but even with improvement, it doesn't get great mileage. The interior looks and feels nicer overall and offers logical, effective controls, but the plastic door paneling doesn't look great. The 2018 Terrain offers 3 engines, including a turbodiesel, and it can be purchased with front- or all-wheel drive. Our reviewer prefers the upgraded 2.0-liter 4-cylinder to the base 1.5-liter and got nearly equal mileage with both engines. But our reviewer was troubled by the fact that the Terrain earned a 3-star rating for side impacts to the backseat from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which leaves the Terrain a questionable choice for anyone planning to carry children in the back.
